Andreï Malakhov

After studying in Kyiv (National Academy of Music of Ukraine) and Paris (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, École Normale de Musique de Paris), Andrei settled in France to pursue a career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. Andrii Malakhov is a prizewinner of international competitions in Ukraine, Slovakia, and Finland.
He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany, Austria, Finland, Switzerland, Slovakia (notably with the Slovak Chamber Orchestra), Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Colombia, and other countries. He has performed numerous Ukrainian and world premieres, including the Ukrainian premiere of Arvo Pärt's "Tabula Rasa" for violin, viola, and strings with Roman Mints on violin and the New Era Orchestra conducted by Tetiana Kalinichenko.
In 2013, he was a member of the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra. Andrii Malakhov is the principal viola of the New Europe Chamber Orchestra and guest principal viola of the New Era Orchestra (Kyiv). He also regularly performs with the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the Paris Opera Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Metz, the Orchestre National de Cannes, the Orchestre National des Pays de Loire, and the Orchestre Lamoureux (the latter four as principal viola). Passionate about chamber music, he plays in various ensembles at numerous festivals, including Zeist Music Days (Netherlands), Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves, Cully Classique (Switzerland), Encuentro de Musica de Santander (Spain), and San Martino a Natale (Venice, Italy), where he shares the stage with great musicians such as Zakhar Bron, Henri Demarquette, Annick Roussin, Valérie Aimard, Naaman Sluchin, Laszlo Hadady, Artiom Shishkov, Christophe Desjardins, Mark Drobinsky, Laurianne Corneille, and Orlando Bass.
Since 2016, Andrii has been the violist of the Élysée Quartet, with whom he performs numerous concerts in France and abroad and records for the Peyrole Records and Continuo Classics labels. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, he has participated in numerous charity projects and joined the Blue and Gold Quartet, alongside three Ukrainian refugee musicians, to popularize Ukrainian academic music. In the field of contemporary music, Andrii Malakhov works extensively with Le Balcon (numerous world premieres, residencies at the Singer-Polignac Foundation, the Théâtre de l'Athénée, and the Lille Opera, participation in the festivals "La Folle Journée de Nantes," the Deauville Easter Festival, the Saint-Denis Festival, the Paris Autumn Festival, etc.), as well as with the Maja and Ars Nova ensembles.
Always curious, Andrii Malakhov participates in various jazz, rock, folk, pop, and other projects, including recordings with the bands Arkan and T.A.N.K. and a concert at the Pitchfork Festival with the band M83.
