Joël Lasry began playing the horn at the age of six at the Amiens Conservatory, where he won first prizes in horn, music theory, and chamber music. In 2003, he was admitted to the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris, from which he graduated in 2008 with a unanimous first prize with honors. In 2009, he won first prize and the audience prize at the Città di Porcia International Competition (Italy), and in 2011, second prize at the Brno International Competition (Czech Republic). A member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra from 2012 to 2015, he played there under the direction of Valery Gergiev, Neeme Järvi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Charles Dutoit, and Zubin Mehta. He is regularly in demand in French orchestras (Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon, Orchestre National de Bretagne, Orchestre de Picardie). He is a permanent member of the ensemble Le Balcon, conducted by Maxime Pascal, for which he creates reductions and orchestrations; as well as of the Mahlerian Camerata conducted by Benjamin Garzia. In addition, he regularly performs in chamber music, notably with the violinist Pierre Fouchenneret and the pianist Eric Le Sage, with whom he recorded Johannes Brahms’ Trio op. 40 (B-Records). Joël Lasry is a horn professor at the Conservatoire Municipal du 8e arrondissement in Paris.
