Arthur Lavandier

A regular collaborator of Le Balcon and its musical director Maxime Pascal, Arthur Lavandier has created numerous arrangements with them as well as three operas: De la terreur des hommes, Le Premier Meurtre and La Légende du Roi Dragon – the last two were performed at the Lille Opera in 2016 and 2018. In cinema, he co-composed the music for Minuscule: La Vallée des fourmis perdues, which won the César Award for Best Animated Film in 2015. In 2012, Arthur Lavandier was a finalist for the Queen Elisabeth Grand Prix for Composition, and in 2014 was the winner of the SwissLife four-hands prize. He composed the chamber opera Bobba for this occasion, which premiered in 2015 at the Philharmonie de Paris. In 2016, he received the Young Artists Encouragement Award from the Académie des Beaux-Arts, and in 2017, the New Talent Music Award from the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers.
As composer-in-residence at the Orchestre de chambre de Paris from 2017 to 2020, he created three works with them: the arrangement of Berlioz's Irish Melodies, Hanno's Journey for tenor and orchestra, and Spiritual Poems for soprano and orchestra. In 2022, he premiered Three Prophecies at the Théâtre de Cornouaille, Phrygian Dances for the Sōra trio, Legends with the Balcony at the Lille Opera, Incantations of the Lovers for the Nouveaux Horizons Festival, and finally the opera The Short History of Marco Polo, with a libretto by Frédéric Boyer, at the Rouen Opera. Arthur Lavandier is the manager of the publishing company Belle Symphonie, which specializes in publishing contemporary music, arrangements, and transcriptions of the repertoire.
