Le Balcon - Marie Picaut

Marie Picaut began singing at the Maîtrise de Bretagne in Rennes. Holder of a Master's degree in Musicology, a DEM in singing and choral conducting, she perfected her lyrical art at the Trieste Conservatory in 2007, then specialized in the classes of Julie Hassler for early music, and Françoise Tillard, for the art of Melody and Lied. Marie Picaut now flourishes in numerous professional vocal ensembles (Les Cris de Paris, Accentus, Le Poème Harmonique, Les Métaboles, etc.). She works regularly with Le Balcon, specializing in contemporary repertoire and creations, notably in Stockhausen's Licht cycle. In 2025, she created Ricardo Nillni's Pentagona, for one voice and four instruments. Stimulated by the idea of combining her voice with dance and theater, she can be seen and heard in Tumulus (2022) or In absentia (2024), choreographic shows by Geoffroy Jourdain and François Chaignaud, or again in Petites Joueuses with the latter (Louvre 2024). She also sings in Heptameron, récits de la chambre obscure, directed by Benjamin Lazar, in which madrigals are combined with the stories of Marguerite de Navarre (Les Cris de Paris - 2019). In 2018, she was Maître Lapin in La légende du roi Dragon by Arthur Lavandier (creation at the Lille opera, co-production at the Bordeaux opera) or as an understudy for the role of Gerda in The Snow Queen by Hans Abrahamsen (Opéra national du Rhin 2021). Her curiosity also leads her to explore and push the boundaries of lyrical vocal art, notably in the show L’ailleurs de l’autre which plays on multiple vocalities around the world (production Les Cris de Paris). Marie Picaut engages each year in numerous artistic projects with an educational scope for which she is keen to transmit the essence of her profession and leads workshops on the female voice, with young composers (Atelier Voix Et Composition des Cris de Paris).
