Sydney Fierro

Bass-baritone
Le Balcon - Sydney Fierro

Born in 1986 in Lausanne, Switzerland, into a family of musicians, Sydney began singing at the age of nine with the Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois, with whom he toured the world extensively.

He entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of seventeen, then continued his studies with Margreet Honig in Amsterdam and, today, with Malcolm Walker in Paris.

Sydney made his Baroque opera debut in 2003 under the baton of William Christie, performing the role of Zuliman in Campra's Europe Galante at the Académie d'Ambronay, the Opéra Royal de Versailles, the Opéra de Bilbao, and the Opéra de Besançon.
William Christie called upon him again for Purcell's The Fairy Queen at the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.

He has sung under the direction of Emmanuelle Haïm, Christophe Rousset, Marc Minkowski, Kurt Masur, John Nelson, Vincent Dumestre, Hervé Niquet, and Rapahel Pichon, with whom he has recorded Bach's Missas Brevis for the Alpha label.

His voice and temperament naturally lead him to Mozart roles, and he has been heard in Figaro from The Marriage of Figaro and Papageno from The Magic Flute, conducted by Olivier Holt and Amaury Du Closel, as well as in the role of Buff in The Schauspieldirektor under the baton of Laurence Equilbey.

More recently, Sydney sang Alvaro in Rameau's Indes Galantes with the Simphonie du Marais at the Vienna Konzerthaus and with the Ensemble Le Balcon, under the direction of Maxime Pascal. He sang the roles of the Authorized Representative and a Colocate in Michael Lévinas's La Métamorphose at the Athénée Louis Jouvet in Paris and at the Strasbourg Musica Festival, as well as Pablo in Fernando Fizbein's opera Avenida de Los Incas at the Lille Opera, the Athénée Louis Jouvet, and the Festival Nueva Opera at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

With a particular affinity for chamber music, Sydney founded the duo Goethe In Gun with harpist Chloé Ducray. They approach the Romantic repertoire with a fresh perspective and have recorded Schumann's Dichterliebe for the Les Belles Ecouteuses label.

Sydney has shared the stage in numerous operatic recitals and duets with soprano Sophie Boyer and pianist Alissa Zoubritski.
