Ariadne auf Naxos
This version premiered on 14 May 2013 at the Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet.
In 2013, the Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet entrusted Le Balcon with a residency that began that season with Ariadne auf Naxos and continued in 2013-2014 with Paroles et Musique by Samuel Beckett set to music by Morton Feldman, Pierrot lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg, Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, and concluded with Peter Eötvös' opera Le Balcon.
"The Athénée has chosen to support the original artistic initiative of the Ensemble Le Balcon, which demonstrates a strong desire to change the conditions of listening to a concert through the use of sound reinforcement techniques for the instruments. The sensory experience is heightened tenfold, allowing listeners and spectators to discover a work from an original angle or to rediscover aspects of a work. Le Balcon also explores a wide variety of repertoires, from contemporary music to classical and opera. It is this constant musical research that the Athénée wishes to encourage by offering Le Balcon working conditions conducive to creativity."
