La Passion selon Marc

Michaël Levinas
La Passion selon Marc. Une Passion après Auschwitz (2016) [The Passion according to Mark. A Passion after Auschwitz]
Commissioned by the association Musique pour un temps présent
Premiere: April 12, 2017, Église Saint-François, Lausanne
In accepting this commission, I had decided to take up Emmanuel Levinas's dedication to Autrement qu'être, a work in which he speaks of a passivity more passive than passivity, of a radical exposure to the otherness of others, of a denudation, a sacrifice. This dedication expresses the starting point and the spirit in which I worked on this Passion according to Mark from the outset. A Passion after Auschwitz, a work that also confronted me with my own history: "In memory of those closest to me among the six million murdered by the National Socialists, alongside the millions and millions of people of all faiths and nations, victims of the same hatred of other men, of the same anti-Semitism.
