Born in 1985 in Toulouse, Iris Zerdoud began playing the clarinet at the age of 8 at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Tours before continuing her studies in Paris. In February 2007, she was admitted to the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris (CNSMDP) in the class of Pascal Moraguès and Jean-François Verdier and obtained her Master’s degree in June 2012. She also studied for a semester in London at the Royal College of Music in the class of Richard Hosford.

Iris performs in chamber music with renowned soloists in France and abroad, such as Jean-François Heisser, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger and Miguel da Silva and made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2021 with violinist Patricia Kopatchinsakaja. She regularly collaborates with various orchestras including the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre de Picardie and the Orchestre d’Auvergne.

It was at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris that she met the future founders of Le Balcon, an ensemble she joined for the inaugural concert on 17 November 2008 and with which she works more and more regularly. Since 2013, she has been in charge of the production of the majority of Le Balcon’s concerts and operas and now holds the position of production manager in parallel with her activity as a clarinettist.

Amongst the Balcon’s flagship productions, Stockhausen’s opera cycle Licht has a prominent place and Iris has a solo role in it, playing the character of Eva. The operas were performed from 2018 at the Opéra Comique, the Southbank Centre in London, the Auditorium in Bordeaux and the Philharmonie in Paris.

She is currently preparing the role of Stockhausen’s Freitag aus Licht with clarinettist Suzanne Stephens, a production scheduled for 2022 at the Opéra de Lille and the Philharmonie de Paris.
